We’ve started a pioneer educational programme ‘The Future of Global Business Services’ co-created by GAP Faculty at Cracow University of Economics & ASPIRE member companies (Hitachi Vantara, Abbvie, Alexander Mann Solutions, Amer Sports, Aon, Brown Brothers Harriman, Ecolab, Electrolux, IBM, IG, State Street Bank, UPM).
Krakow’s already made it to the world 10 best global outsourcing cities. 18 jobs are created here each day. But we live in the world of a constant change and new challenges are coming along.
Having that in mind we came up with the idea of a new educational model inspired by so-called ‘dual studies’ focused on the development of practical skills.
Soft skills are the key
Nowadays employers’ expectations don’t go hand in hand with the students’ preparation to work.
We faced it creating the programme which combines theory and practice thanks to students’ close cooperaton with partner companies. Each semester students divived into small groups under supervision of a dedicated mentor carry out practical projects solving company’s real problems.
Good kick-off for future careers
The programme is integrative with regards to knowledge and broadens students’ competencies. Over three semesters students participate in 7 courses and 3 project modules. The courses are taught in teams – a UEK’s instructor cooperating with a group of experts from selected companies – the syllabi for the courses are a result of a joint effort between UEK’s faculty members and companies participating in the partnership. The project modules play an important role – students working in small groups have a chance for practicing the theories directly in partner companies. Students working on their projects are advised by mentors from the companies, they also get methodological support from faculty members.
The detailed programme:
- Global Business Services – Concept, Scope, Practical Implications,
- The Future of Finance and Accounting,
- Project Management in Transformative Organizations,
- Successful Communication, Collaboration and Self-Development in Corporate World,
- Technology and Development – Progressive Approach,
- Evidence-Based Decision-Making Process in Business Organizations,
- The Future of Banking,
- Project Modules (3).
This educational formula itself has no equivalency in Polish realities of education for business. We are open for other companies to join us believing that our open-source model, initiated by business companies, will be a good example of changes in the higher education system in Poland.
