Kolegium Gospodarki i Administracji Publicznej UEK

The aim of the project was to analyze university models in relation to important contemporary concepts (e.g. Luhmann, Weinbach). Luhmann sees reality as a system and various subsystems. The university crisis means that the system has stopped working and is therefore too complicated and is divided into, for example, science and teaching. According to Luhmann, processes cannot be controlled, we only see the differentiation of systems. If differentiating categories cease to be valuable, it means that they functionally lose their importance, e.g. educated/uneducated. Further development of current university models will occur, but it is not about striving for a goal, but about escaping from inconsistencies and problems. What is important is the fact that the organization cannot be repaired indefinitely and it is necessary to move to another system.

The research results indicated that the idea of the university is in crisis. However, existing university models do not allow for flexibility in relation to external changes. Luhamann is skeptical about the possibility of repairing the functioning university model, but the proposed original concept of The challenge-university (K. Guczalska, W. Gałat) seems to be the closest to meeting the challenges of today’s university.
