Changes in urban mobility against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic and their impact on shaping city transport systems

The project led to the identification of the nature of changes in urban mobility as a result of restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the analysis of statistical data, traffic measurements and administrative decisions made in 2020-2022 in various European cities, trends in the daily mobility of city residents were determined. The pandemic shock has had a strong impact on the size, direction and manner of movements in urbanized areas, which is largely due to restrictions on public transport and the increase in the popularity of remote work. The outflow of public transport passengers resulted, among other things, in an increase in individual traffic, including bicycle traffic. In addition to epidemic restrictions, this situation was influenced by investments in temporary bicycle infrastructure undertaken in many European cities, including Krakow. Survey research has highlighted the need to create public spaces for recreation and rest, which will improve the quality of urban space and have a positive impact on the safety and public health of city residents.
