As a result of Russia launching a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Poland has become not only an attractive country for economic immigrants from Ukraine and other parts of the world, but also a place of refuge for approximately one million forced migrants. The aim of the project is to analyze the national and regional dimensions of the migration transition that took place in Poland and Małopolska (Lesser Poland) Voivodeship in the last decade, as well as the various dimensions of the presence of economic and forced immigrants in the country and the region. In particular, the project will try to examine and describe the situations of economic and forced migrants in small Polish towns, where until recently they were almost invisible, but now create visible communities. It will focus on Małopolska (Lesser Poland), which from a typical emigration area has begun to advance to the role of an important center receiving not only economic immigrants from Ukraine and other European countries and beyond our continent, but also a very large group of refugees from Ukraine. The aim of the project is a detailed analysis of the migration transition in Małopolska and the situation of economic and forced immigrants in the region. Based on diverse register data and quantitative and qualitative research of the project team, a detailed picture of immigrants in the region will be drawn.
